Abstract
Research, development and innovation is essential for their development and plays a key role in the creation of new knowledge, products and technological processes. The subject of the diploma thesis is an evaluation of the indicators of the research and innovation potential of the Olomouc and Zlín regions of the Czech Republic for the period 2013-2017. For evaluation, R&D indicators such as human resources, workplaces and research workplaces, total R&D expenditure and patents granted by sector of implementation with a focus on the public sector were selected. In the Olomouc region, Palacký university has a dominant position, in the Zlín region, Tomáš Baťa University. A comparison of total R&D expenditure by sectors of implementation showed that the Olomouc Region spends more money than the Zlín Region. The dominant position differs from the regions, the Olomouc region has a better position in the public sector, on the contrary, the Zlín region in the business sector. In assessing the research and innovation potential, the correlation analysis showed that the two regions differed greatly in the results. The Zlín region shows a greater dependence, with the exception of two relationships that cannot be correlated. Only public sector R&D expenditure compared to R&D expenditure in the business sector shows a negative value. Negative values prevail in the Olomouc Region. This indirect dependency has been demonstrated in R&D employees (FTE) in total compared to total public sector expenditure, furthermore, for R&D staff and public sector researchers (FTE) not only compared to public sector expenditure, but also against the number of research centres in the public sector. Indirect dependence also shows public sector R&D expenditure compared to R&D expenditure in the business sector. R&D (FTE) employees represent very weak dependencies compared to R&D workplaces and researchers in the business sector compared to patents granted. The weak dependency is then the R&D expenditure in the business sector compared to the patents granted.
