Abstract
This master’s thesis focuses on the design of a new approach to terrain and biome generation in the Other Kosmos project. The aim was to create a method capable of generating landscape in a smooth and seamless way, while also ensuring the world feels natural and diverse. The terrain is composed of a combination of several landscape types, each with its own parameters and weight, which determines how it contributes to the final shape. In addition, the biome system was redesigned to be based on real-world climate conditions, specifically temperature, precipitation levels, and terrain height. As a result, the biomes transition more naturally into each other, creating a more believable environment. The thesis also includes the development of visualization tools that assist in tuning noise functions and displaying the overall layout of the terrain and biomes.
