Abstract
The objective of this bachelor’s thesis has been to verify an impact of freezing temperatures as regards characteristics and serviceability of fiber-reinforced concrete. The thesis is structured in a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with concrete structures that can be fibre-reinforced, and specifies advantages of such reinforcement. A detailed list of suitable fibres is given.
The practical part of the thesis evaluates effects of chemically aggressive environment on the fiber-reinforced concrete. The hardened fiber-reinforced concrete was subjected to effects of freezing temperatures and de-icing chemicals and the experimental results were compared with those obtained by testing common concrete. It follows from the comparison that fiber reinforcement is of advantage if the effect of freezing temperatures is taken into account. Nevertheless, anti-freezing agents erode and diminish bond strength of fibre concrete surfaces more easily than it would be the case of common concrete.
