Abstract
Demografic ageing is one of the challenges that the present society have to face. Almost all economically advanced countries need to address issues concerning the ageing population, including the Czech Republic. Demografic ageing means that the structure of population changes. This is usually reflected in an increase in the population's mean and median ages, a decline in the proportion of the population composed of children, and a rise in the proportion of the population that is elderly. Population aging is primarily due to increased life expectancy and low birth rate. This phenomenon will bring about many social and economic problems, whether it's pension system, social security or health care.
This work deals with a basic definition of the problem of demographic ageing and develop the methodology to be used for the analysis of population ageing. Another part deals with the biggest threats in connection with this problem. The central part is devoted to mapping the situation in the Moravian-Silesian Region. It tries to answer the question whether the communities of this region are threatened by population ageing.
