Abstract

The diploma thesis deals with the study of biodegradation of carbamazepine drug contained in sewage sludge using selected species of bacteria. Medicinal substances have been a part of our lives since ancient times. However, medicines have only recently become known as contaminants of all parts of environment and can have a negative impact on a plant, an animal, and a human health. The research part of the diploma thesis is focused on the issue of drugs in the environment. In addition to an introduction issue, it contains an overview of decontamination technologies. It includes subchapters of biodegradation technology in situ and ex situ technologies, as well as the conditions necessary for the success of degradation. Chapter deals with a search for biodegradation of drugs, which occurs in sewage sludge, especially its composition and use today. The last chapter of research part deals with microorganism, especially extemophilic bacteria of the genus Rhodococcus, that were selected for the experimental part of this thesis. In the experimental part of diploma thesis, the biodegradation of the drugs carbamazepine using selected species of bacteria is studied.
