Abstract

The aim of Bachelor Thesis is to review positive and negative effects of nuclear power station and its produces electricity, also to consider the impact of effects on economic situation of countries, on people opinions in countries with operated or eliminated nuclear power stations and last but not least on environment. The attention is devoted to the European Union (EU) and to the role which the nuclear energy plays here. Fist part of the work is focused to peaceful usage of nuclear energy. It describes the history of nuclear energetics producing, nuclear power stations, reactors and their operations, nuclear waste and it presents impacts of nuclear power stations on the environment. Further, the work presents the usage of nuclear core in European Union, it describes the foundation and functions of European Atomic Energy Community, and it highlights different approaches of individual EU countries to the nuclear energetics. The third chapter deals with the situation in the Czech Republic, especially with the current situation of nuclear power stations Dukovany and Temelín. The "Report of the independent expert committee to assess the energy needs of the Czech Republic in the long term" is introduced and the opinion of Czech population to usage of nuclear energy is described.
