Abstract
The thesis focuses on the readiness of the automotive industry in the European Union for the transition to electromobility. Based on an analysis of the automotive industry in the European Union, the aim of the thesis is to assess its current state of electromobility and to predict its future development and readiness for changes in the automotive industry, which represents a key element of the European Union's strategy to decarbonise transport and meet climate targets. Electromobility also marks a major technological and structural transformation of the automotive sector, which is facing pressure from regulatory changes, high investment costs and increasing competition from non-European manufacturers.
The structure of the thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter provides a theoretical framework and describes the basic concepts, technological principles of electromobility and EU climate and energy policy. The second chapter provides an overview of legislative measures and policy support for the development of electromobility. The third chapter summarises the existing knowledge on market development and current trends. The fourth chapter provides a practical analysis of the technological readiness of Member States based on the EV Readiness Index 2023, including a detailed comparison of market, infrastructure and cost. The fifth chapter focuses on the assessment of the readiness of European automakers in terms of their strategies, investments, supply chains and the impact of foreign competition. The thesis concludes with a SWOT analysis summarising the main findings and an overall assessment of the European automotive industry's readiness for the transition to electromobility.
