Abstract

The biopolymers are, in contrast to commonly used polymers, biologically decomposable in living environment. Because of the protection of the environment the common polymers must be separated. If they are not separated they pollute the environment by means of their gathering in landfill sites or wherever they have been left. This thesis deals with a great part of today known natural and synthetic biopolymers. In the first part are described the characteristics of biopolymers like cellulose, amyloid, chitin, xylan, pectic acid, insulin, glycogen, hyaluronic acid, proteins, biopolyesters, polyacid, polyvinyl alcohol, polycaprolacton, mater-bi and polyglicoid. For some important biopolymers are also included their history of the biopolyesters, isolation, production and degradation. In the second part is summerized their usage in the present. The materials made out of the biopolymers are described here. The thesis also includes some economic aspects of the usage of the biopolymers of the past and of the future, graphs and tables.
