Abstract

This diploma thesis deals with the visualization of the earthquake in the UMN MapServer. At the beginning of the project there are basic information about earthquakes, coordinate systems and cartographical map projections. Furthermore, the project deals with making the application Eqmap, originally designed for the Linux operating system under Windows. At this step up the work involved in finding free resources available seismic data. Subsequently, it was made to the practical design and implementation of data storage. In this section, it was necessary to select appropriate database, which would be able to store data in a form other than text, preferably in the form of vector. Furthermore, it was to find a suitable programming language, allowing communication with all applications. More advanced forms of visualization in the context of this work deal with the transformation of data into other coordinate systems where the default coordinate system is taken WGS84 and target coordinate systems are given by the UTM and UPS. Conclusion the work deals with the acquisition of the population in affected areas based on the defined distance from the epicenter. The exact number cannot directly provide, but through the Zonal analysis is above the spatial data to obtain a more precise estimate of the number of affected people. This thesis seeks to find an appropriate solution to this problem using a freely available modern technologies used in GIS.
