Abstract

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to assess and compare investments into equity funds and index certificates from the chosen points of view. To achieve this objective I have used the method of decision analysis. One part of the aim is also a general finding, if it is more profitable to use the active investment strategy of chosing shares or if the passive administration of portofilio is more valuable. The thesis is divided into five chapters including the preamble and the conclusions. The second chapter is focused on characteristics of the equity funds. Firstly the principles of collective investments are described there, and then the characetistics of subjects of collective investments follow. This chapter is concluded by a basic division of the equity funds. The third chapter is dedicated to the index certificates on financial markets. Firstly the modern structured products are described, and then the principles of investing into the index certificates follow. The subsequent parts include division and characteristics of the index certificates. In the last part of the chapter I explained the criteria of comparison and the used methodology. In the chapter four I carried out an analysis of the equity funds and index certificates by means of the set criteria. The evaluation of the observed results through the decision analysis follows. The conclusion of this chapter is dedicated to an overview of the observed results and final recommendations of the best investment strategy.
