Abstract

Still more and more attention is paid to protection of civil aviation from illegal acts. Experience from the pasts few years shows increasing tensions and newly-occurring conflicts and terrorist attacks even in the civilized European continent. Those who commit these acts attack the very basic features of freedom and democracy, focusing on those aspects of life which are the dearest to the Europeans – human life and the sense of security. They often use infrastructure to secure as deadly an outcome of the acts as possible. As a result, the attention of still more and more of these terrorists is drawn upon airports. The protection of civil aviation from illegal acts is therefore one of the key threats defined by the National Security Council of the Czech Republic. The aim of this dissertation is to suggest a model for evaluating passengers´ behavior, which will calculate the potential risks that individual passengers pose. The model is based on the basic principles of airport security, which are constantly changing so as to reflect illegal acts committed, as well as methods of detecting suspicious people. The innovative aspect of the dissertation is the focus on the use of automatized technologies and systems which facilitate a contact-free analysis of people´s behavior and, considering the set parameters, subsequently deliver an alarm message. The paper presents four alternative solutions based on the key factors which the airport security management personnel prefer. The dissertation´s end also provides a proposal of an implementation selected airport technology. In terms of the scientific field of safety/security engineering, the dissertation is innovative in that it proposes new and as yet never used preliminary passenger profiling system which attempt to detect suspicious behavioral traits. The dissertation; however, also provides airport security personnel and security forces with a practical guide to the implementation of such a system.
