Abstract
My diploma thesis is focused on assessing the suitability of the West African Economic and Monetary Union based on evaluation of primary and secundary convergence criterions. Member countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union are Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal and Togo. The theoretical part of thesis deals with the Theory of Monetary Integration with an emphasis on traditional version of Theory of Optimum Currency Area, preconditions of theoretical model of Theory of Optimum Currency Area and tools for the evaluation of the model of OCA. Another part of the thesis is devoted to economic integration in West Africa, economic integration organizations in the subregion and in particular the convergence criterions and conditions of the West African Economic and Monetary Union. Practical part of the thesis is focused on the implementation of the convergence criterions by the member states of the West African Economic and Monetary Union from 2000 to 2012.
I hope that my work will contribute in this issue.
