Abstract
The aim of the dissertation is to analyse a review of the summer Olympic Games with the focus being on their political and economical aspects and suggest possible future direction of the olympic movement.
The comparison of the ancient Olympic Games with the modern-day Games in terms of their cultural, political and economical context plays an important role.
The important factors that influenced each of the Games´ overall organisation and/or course are captured. The most commonly featured factors are the social situation, assertion of political power as a result of societal pressures and use of violence in extreme cases. Economic factors also played an influntiential role.
These events make their mark and change the face of each of the Games. The author of the dissertation aims to reveal the unique and nonrecurring atmosphere of each of the Games, that are set in a specific context and wider social environment.
The sporting records of the Olympics are engraved in gold, however the other events accompanying them are not as worthy of celebration. Nevertheless, they cannot and should not be forgotton.
