Abstract

The subject of this work is to characterize and then analyse the non-life insurance market in the Czech Republic using selected indicators. These indicators includes burden of losses, gross premium income and its proportion of gross domestic product, insurance performance or concentration of the insurance market. The market has been studied during 12 years period from the year 1997 to 2008, founded data has been compared with the entire insurance market values. The year 2008 is emphasizes, because of the fact that it was coping with the impact of economic crisis. From presented results, it is obvious that the non-life insurance market has built a strong position, during observed 12 years, and protects against the risk by wide spectre of products. In the year 2008, we can see that the pace of escalation of some indicators was reduced, but the market has not been affected a lot. The non-life insurance market in the Czech Republic has built a strong position.
