Abstract

The transverse magneto-optic (MO) effect is used to design an integrated MO isolator consisting of waveguide structure based on a tensile-strained quantum well laser. Device isolation efficiency is calculated using the Yeh's matrix formalism for anisotropic multilayers. Waveguide losses introduced by absorption of MO metallic film are compensated by optical gain in the quantum-well (QW) lasing structure. The effects of the overlayer and the MO layer thicknesses on the isolation are optimized.
