Abstract
This master´s thesis deals with the optical coupler or hub, which is an important element of passive optical networks and will be exposed to thermal stress. It will acquaint us to the properties and the principle of WDM couplers and optical networks. An important part of the master´s thesis is to determine the influence of thermal stress on the coupler attenuation parameters. The first part of the thesis explains the individual parameters and properties of couplers, optical networks and optical fibers.
The practical part deals with the measurement itself and the influence of the temperature on the attenuation parameters of the couplers. Important measurement parameters are total losses, loss of homogeneity, dividing ratio, directivity and insertion loss. The work was based on the fact, that thermal stress will increase attenuation.
