Abstract

Summary The Project „The European Capital of Culture as a Part of Support of Culture in the EU – Bc. Jakub Mynarčík The thesis deals with the the topic of the European Capital of Culture. The central target is to characterize the title European Capital of Culture, which is awarded to selected cities in the EU. A partial target is a characteristic, description and analysis of the candidacy of Ostrava, which competed for the title of European Capital of Culture for 2015. In the second chapter is thesis focuses on the description of the basic terminology and definitions. It is pointed out in support of culture in the EU, in what ways the EU is contributing to the development of culture, which the tools and policies it uses. This chapter is being aimed at clarifying the position of culture in the EU in general terms, the present situation, the legislation in the primary and secondary EU law. The third chapter gives a detailed description of processes, relationships to the concept of European Capital of Culture. Part of the text is devoted to the way it is followed in the selection of cities. Purpose and vision award the title are added in the future. The fourth chapter is devoted to the competition of the European Capital of Culture in the Czech Republic, its evaluation and recommendations for further action activities in the field of culture in the city of Ostrava. In this chapter, a survey done, which is focused on awareness of the European Capital of Culture among the people from the entire country. This chapter also deals with a specific project in Ostrava - Ostrava 2015th. The conclusion of this essay is primarily evaluate the objectives and hypotheses, and answers the question, what has been achieved and what are the possible recommendations in this area.
