Abstract
One of the main economic problems in the majority of the developed countries is fiscal imbalance, which is caused by the budget deficits and their accumulation into the public debt. The aim of the thesis is to assess the influence of basic economic, institutional and other factors on the level of public debt in the OECD countries. A regression model was used to test data between 1995 and 2016 for 35 OECD countries. In conclusion, the highest impact on the level of public debt in OECD countries have institutional variables, long-term interest rates and labor force participation rates.
