Abstract

In present, cellphones are more often used for other tasks than phone calls. The aim of this work is to demonstrate how to use a cellphone as a remote controller for electric systems and appliances. In basic mode, the user is able to turn on/off given device connected to the control board from the cellphone. It is also possible to use thermal sensor to collect actual temperature in measured area. In advanced mode, the Application contains scheduler for planning of individual time- and temperature-based patterns for user actions. The client application was developed for Java ME platform, the server runs on Java SE platform using JNI for serial and parallel port access. To maximize the number of controlled devices, a hardware board with parallel interface was developed as a part of this thesis. The board controlls the devices and can be connected to a typical PC running the server.
