Abstract

Transportation represents one of the fundamental pillars of modern society, while the implementation of infrastructure projects places high demands on effective project management. This thesis focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of project management in a selected transportation infrastructure project, specifically the reconstruction of a railway station, and is conducted in the form of a case study. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the course of the project based on selected project performance indicators, identify key factors influencing its implementation, and propose measures leading to further improvement of project management efficiency. The thesis applies methods such as analysis of project documentation, comparison of planned and actual project parameters, and evaluation of selected project performance indicators. Particular emphasis is placed on the analysis of time, cost, and risk management, including the application of tools such as the Gantt chart, Critical Path Method (CPM), and the Cost Performance Index (CPI). The results of the analysis indicate that the project was implemented efficiently in terms of both time and cost. The project was completed ahead of the planned schedule and at lower costs, with the CPI value reaching approximately 1.04. The identified risks had only a limited impact on the course of the project, mainly due to a conservative planning approach and the inclusion of sufficient reserves. Based on the findings, optimization measures are proposed to increase the flexibility of project management, particularly through the implementation of a hybrid approach combining traditional and agile elements, more systematic risk management, and the use of advanced methods such as Earned Value Management. The proposed measures also have the potential to be applied to similar transportation infrastructure projects.
