Abstract

The aim of this master thesis is to design a functional battery-less concept of device power supply while using kinetic energy transducer. The kinetic energy transducer selected for this thesis is a unimorph piezoelectric transducer in a form of cantilever beam. The theoretical part describes energy harvesting methods, low-power design strategies, and topologies of energy harvesting systems. The thesis includes attached research regarding kinetic energy harvesting applications. The practical part deals with the design of a concept of an autonomous hybrid harvesting system while using development kits. This harvesting system is used to power a development platform FRDM KL25Z with a microcontroller performing a set of program instructions in order to simulate power consumption of any other low-power device. The proposed concept is evaluated in terms of harvested energy, power consumption, dissipated energy, reliability and efficiency.
