Abstract

The topic of this thesis is the issue of innovation and their impact on the competitiveness of national economies with focus on the Czech Republic. Competitiveness refers to the advancement or backwardness of the country. Therefore it is a priority of developed countries to look for ways to increase it. Opening part defines the concepts of competitiveness and innovation. There are described the development of those concepts and the empirical observation methods used by worldwide oragnisations. The relation between innovation and competitivness is described by correlation and regression method. Innovation is statistically significant for competitiveness and economic performance. The linear relation indicates the positive impact of innovation on both variables. Improving drivers of innovation is essential for growth of competitiveness in developed countries (including Czech Republic). There are suggested recommendations to help improve the status of the Czech Republic in key areas, based on the analysis of the country’s innovation enviroment.Key areas are infrastructure of innovation enviroment, funding for innovation activities, legislative and administrative framework for innovation and subjects cooperation in the field of innovation.
