Abstract

The main aim of the thesis is to define, whether the hazardous waste management in health care establishments is being performed in accordance with the current legislation requirements. Waste management in compliance with standards and regulations saves the environment, decreases the risk of transmission of infectious diseases, as well as the number of injuries originating from the manipulation with the waste. The thesis is divided into several chapters. The first chapter deals with the problems of hazardous waste in health service, describes the most important laws and regulations in the Czech Republic. The following chapters describe the waste management in the University Hospital Ostrava and the impact of hazardous materials from hospitals upon the environment.
