Analýza a hodnotenie dopadov uzavretia tepelnej elektrárne Nováky na vodné hospodárstvo danej lokality

Abstract

This bachelor’s thesis focuses on the analysis of the impacts of the closure of the Nováky thermal power plant on the water management of the selected locality. The aim is to assess changes in water resource use, water quality, and water management practices before and after the termination of operation, based on internal data, water monitoring from 2022–2025, and information on implemented remediation measures. The results showed that the shutdown of operations in 2023 led to a significant decrease in water abstraction and an overall reduction in the water load of the area. However, from a qualitative perspective, the impacts of historical activities persist, particularly in ash disposal sites, where drainage and groundwater with elevated concentrations of sulphates and arsenic are monitored. Remediation measures, especially the underground reactive barrier and the Chalmová drainage water treatment plant, play a key role in limiting the spread of contamination, and their effectiveness has been confirmed by monitoring.
