Abstract

Brainstem auditory evoked potentials are responses to irritations of the inner ear hair cells by the source of stimuli. In case of evoked potentials, a sound is an impulse of irritation. It is transformed into an electrical potential and its formation is recorded by the BERA method from auditory nerve to brainstem. They are evoked potentials with short latency (Short Latency Responses - SLR) and occur between 0 - 10 ms after stimulation. Responses induced by stimuli are detected by electrodes placed on the surface of the skull. Voltage level of generated evoked potential is very small, therefore it is necessary to amplify and average the signal using computer techniques to achieve evaluable results. This bachelor thesis is focused on the description of these potentials and instructions for their examination by BERA.
