Abstract

This diploma thesis, focused on the issue of designing and constructing a public lighting network, first explains the basic terminology and discusses the parts of a typical public lighting system powered by an underground cable line. The thesis defines and describes the basic technical lighting quantities as well as compares the traditional light sources that are used in this industry. A substantial part of this thesis is devoted to the legislative and normative requirements for public lighting systems, where the emphasis is mainly on currently resonating topics such as the amendment of the Building Act or the new standard for reducing the undesirable effects of outdoor lighting. At the end of the theoretical part, traditional and modern methods of controlling the public lighting systems are described. One of the modern but not widespread methods is using the powerline technology, which is presented in more detail in the project documentation of the public lighting system reconstruction in the village of Doloplazy, in which I practically participated.
