Abstract

This thesis focuses on the examination of the volume stability of metallurgical slags effect of the water and find the relation between the slag phase composition and their ability to react with water present in the current volume changes. The theoretical part is focused on the chemical and phase composition of metallurgical slags and their utilization, both in waste heat recovery, and material utilization. The theoretical part is focused on the processes that lead to instability and volumetric methods used to assess and to evaluate volume changes. The experimental part is focused on the identification and assessment of the volume stability of five different ladle slag and dolomite construction material. In this part the chemical composition of slag and properties which were monitored in samples are also described. These properties are the density and determination of phase composition by X-ray diffraction of the samples. This section also describes the method of measuring of the volume stability in a sand bath and are given the values resulting relative changes in sample volume. Furthermore, this section gives density and phase composition of samples after an examination volume stability. At the end of the work are summarized and compared the properties before and after the test of volume stability and the results of volume changes.
