Abstract

This bachelor thesis focuses on issues of financial and economic crises. It offers a brief description of the major crises in the past and it also describes the beginning of the global financial and economic crisis in the USA and its expansion into Europe. The aim is to analyze the progress of the economic crisis in each member country of the Visegrad group, find the specific features of each economy and compare impact of the crisis between the Visegrad Group countries. The descriptive method is used in this thesis for comparing macroeconomic indicators. The conclusion summarizes the basic knowledge about the impact of the crisis on the incriminated countries. Poland was the most successful country in crisis, due to less focus on foreign trade and better stability of domestic demand. On the other side economy of Hungary was in the worst position in comparison among countries of the Visegrad Group. Hungary was affected by the problems in the sphere of public finances which resulted to loss of confidence in financial markets. Situation in the Czech Republic and Slovakia was remarkably similar, despite of different monetary policy framework. Both countries were hit especially by the decline of foreign demand of their products which caused decline in export.
