Abstract
The paper characterizes basic development trends in the Slovak Republic in the year 2004. It deals with the development trends in the field of macroeconomic policy, the creation of business environment, labour market policy, social policy and conduct of privatization in that year. In the concluding part the current economic and social reforms are briefly characterized.
