Abstract

This thesis focuses on the possible application of the cyclic sedimentary patterns in Czech part of the Upper Silesian Basin, particularly in the Ostrava Formation. First part of the text contains specification of area and its geological evolution, especially coal-bearing Carboniferous sediments of Ostrava Formation and their cyclicity. Next part deals with theory of cyclic sedimentation from historical point of view based on the research from foreign coal-bearing basins. Publications about cyclic sedimentation in the Upper Silesian Basin are divided into two groups according to its origin. Firstly, epeirogenetic movements of the Earth´s crust were considered to be the main reason of cyclicity, nowadays it´s glacio-eustatic changes of the sea level. Next part of this thesis is case study aimed on practical application of cyclicity in Jaklovec Member with relation to the coal-bearing capacity. For first part, documentation from the selected borehole samples with complete sequence of Jaklovec Member is used. Second attempt of the case study is based on resource calculation of bituminous coal in Lazy Mine.
