Abstract
The thesis deals with the possibility to recycle PET bottles, mainly with transformation
of the waste polyethylentereftalate by heat decomposition without the presence of oxygen.
The theoretical part of the thesis consists of a general overview of possibilities to transform
waste PET, followed by a chapter describing the actual recycling technology and the current
state of recycling in our country and around the globe. Furthermore, chapters on pyrolysis of
PET and processing carbon skeleton are included which follow the experimental part of the
thesis. In the experimental part, pyrolysis of waste PET is described as well as the possibility
of processing carbon skeleton as a product of the recycling, focussing on activation by ozone.
The purpose of the thesis was to describe recycling PET bottles by heat decomposition
without the presence of oxygen and suggest possible use and processing of the outcoming
products of the recycling, mainly carbon residuum, which turns out to be a very interesting
product.
