Abstract
The aim of this thesis is an analysis of financial performance and solvency calculation České pojišťovny.
The thesis is divided among the introduction and conclusion to the three chapters.
The second chapter is focused on the basic characteristics of insurance business activities and their categorization. Part of the chapter is devoted to the state insurance supervision. Mentioned are also the technical provisions and investments. The content of the chapter is also characteristic of insurance management and financial analysis with analysis of individual financial statements, including balance sheet, profit and loss, attachment, and statement of cash flows. Conclusion of the chapter is devoted to the description of margin.
The third chapter contains an assessment of the methodology of the insurance company. There are describes indicators of financial analysis, including performance indicators, liquidity, profitability indicators and specific insurance company. Another part of the third chapter focuses on the description of methods for measuring solvency, including analysis of the basic financial statements, risk- weighted capital, simulation models, credit ratings and solvency margin. The solvency margin and analysis of financial statements have been described in detail because of their practical application in the thesis.
The fourth chapter focuses on the analysis of management and calculation of the solvency of the selected commercial insurer. The first part describes the Czech insurance company, given its basic data, history and profile of including in the Czech insurance market and insurance operations in 2010. In another part of the chapter is already performed financial analysis and calculation of the solvency of Czech insurance companies. Finally, the chapter is applied to test margin.
