Abstract

Activity in the mining industry is based on the profit principle as it is in other fields of business. Successful companies are trying to gain new locations because the life of a mining capacity is limited in each case. At such acquisitions in the form of purchase of mining organizations, the assessment of future economic results is critical. The issue of determining whether a mining unit achieves profit or loss in the future was dealt with in terms of surface mining of construction materials. The basic group consisted of 70 both profit-making and loss-making mines in 7 European countries owned by an international company with its seat in Europe. The criteria for predicting future economic results were determined by means of the discriminating analysis method. Based on these criteria, monitoring classifications of other mining units were carried out.
