Abstract

Culture is an inevitable condition of human life in society. It is some kind of guideline for behaviour or a procedure in certain situations which people face during their lives. Important parts of culture are museums and art galleries. Museums and art galleries have great impact on individual development of citizens. To a certain degree, they may influence the knowledge, the relationship between the citizens and their city and region, spending free time and of course, they may have good influence on a social life. Whole world is changing very quickly. Technologies, ways of communication, essentially, whole lifestyle is changing. However, museums and art galleries remain as a bridge between past, present and future. Between our lives and stories of people who lived before us, between cultures, nations and people. The goal of this thesis is to describe the situation and financing of museums and galleries in Czech society. Other intention is also finding out how, and whether, the society perceives presence of museums and art galleries. The theses contains, except for introduction and conclusion, of other three separate chapters which are divided into few subheads. The introduction is followed by second chapter that addresses to the situation of museums and art galleries in Czech Republic. This part considers more closely general conception of museums and art galleries and also reflects beginnings of this field. There are defined basic concepts, legislative, conceptions and overall development of Czech museology. The third chapter considers funding of Czech museums and art galleries. This part describes closely dividing of financial sources to public, private and foreign and also describes development of financial sources of particular, separate museums and art galleries. In last, journalistic part, is designed a short questionnaire that finds out what is the relation between people and museums and art galleries like. Further, there are two interviews. One is done with Věra Vahalíková, the head of Art gallery of Silesian Ostrava. The second interview is with Markéta Palowská, ethnographer of Museum of Ostrava. Whole chapter is closed by an article about visits museums and galleries.
