Abstract
This diploma thesis is focused on school buildings as brownfields. The aim of the work is to define a separate category of brownfields for school buildings due to their specific character. The theoretical part is focused on the survey of the situation of abandoned school buildings in Slovakia. It also deals with examples of successful adaptive reuse of school buildings. The first partial goal is the categorization of school buildings, to define the term school brownfield. The second partial goal is to create a decision diagram for the restoration of brownfields. Another partial goal is the application of innovative methods of restoration to the model area together with the possibilities of financing the planned restoration. In the final part there is a discussion on the defined concept of school brownfield. Furthermore, the discussion deals with the decision-making diagram, the approach to the renovation of individual school buildings, the possibilities of restoring the model area, the adaptive reuse of school buildings. Part of the discussion is also the problems that may arise in connection with the recovery.
