Abstract

The topic of the diploma thesis is to analyze the trend of hard coal and lignite coal mining in the Czech Republic and European Union and also assessment of Czech coal mining’s role in European and global context. The text is also concerned with discussion of the possible future of Czech and European coal mining in relation to principles of raw materials policy and energy mix of the Czech Republic and European Union. In seven chapters of text, the coal characteristics and it’s classification based on classification systems are mentioned. The main point is aimed at international systems concerned with economical and business aspects of coal classification and the following opportunities of the use of individual types of coal. The present situation of the state of proved and mineable reserves is described, as well as extractions and lifetimes of hard coal and lignite coal deposits situated in our territory, with assessment of their importance in cases of energy dependance and opportunities of fulfilling goals of national energy mix. Issues around coking coal are also mentioned with regard to it’s inclusion to the group of critical raw materials of the European Union and it’s economical value for hard coal mining as a result of it’s greater expense when compared with steam coal. The problems and opportunities of coking coal secured by mining and import under EU conditions are also taken into account herein.
