Abstract
This thesis focuses on the calculation of electric arc flash hazards in industrial power systems based on the German DGUV 203-077 methodology. This approach provides a simple and conservative risk assessment framework, particularly suitable for low-voltage installations in standard operating environments. The thesis describes the physical nature of arc flash, its causes and effects, and presents an overview of relevant standards, including a comparison with the IEEE 1584-2018 method. The core of the work is a detailed analysis of the DGUV guideline structure, including each step of the calculation process and risk evaluation using a matrix approach. A key output of the thesis is the development and implementation of a custom calculation tool in Microsoft Excel, enabling practical application of the method. The tool includes arc energy estimation, assessment of work conditions, and selection of personal protective equipment against thermal effects (PPEaA). The thesis also examines options for reducing arc risk through organizational and technical measures and offers recommendations for practical use. The results indicate that even a relatively simple method can lead to reliable and safe design of protective measures in industrial electrical systems.
