Abstract
The reduction of regional disparities, differencies or gaps is one of the main objective of the regional policy. In the European Union there is the Cohesion Policy which is focused on reduction of economic, social and territorial disparities.
The Diploma Thesis is concerned with regional disparities in the selected countries of Central Europe - the Czech republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary. The aim of the Diploma Thesis is to describe theoretical approach to regional disparities and detect and analyse regional disparities of the selected countries. The Thesis also describes national regional policy programmes of regional development and European Union Structural Fund programmes of regional development. These programmes should help to reduce regional disparities between the regions.
The analysis of disparities is provided for NUTS level 2 regions. The Thesis presents disparities in economic environment, social environment which represents labour market indicators and in innovation activities. There are very simular problems in all analysed regions. The main financial instruments which are concerned with reduction of disparities are regional development programmes cofinanced with European Union Structural Funds.
