Abstract

The aim of the thesis is the design of measuring workplace for measuring static and dynamic characteristics of the electro-optical intensity modulator. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part summarizes the basic characteristics of a light wave interference. Then principles and structures commonly used interferometers. Another chapter relates to description of the elements used for interferometry which are coherent light sources and light detectors. In the following chapters are discussed properties of modulators, how we can sorting them, how we can modulate an optical signal and utilization electrooptical effect for the design of electro-optical modulators, such as e.g. Mach-Zehnder modulator. The practical part deals with the proposal itself, which means involvement modulator for measuring characteristics. There are described measuring components, design of electronic circuits required for measuring static and dynamic characteristics. Then finding the temperature dependence of the measured element, whether there is or not a variation in optical performance due to temperature, and how much electro-optical material which is susceptible to temperature changes. The resulting measurement data are statistically processed, marked and evaluated in graphs.
