Abstract

This thesis examines the use of renewable energy sources in the post-industrial area of the Karviná region within the Ostrava–Karviná Coal Basin. The objective is to identify suitable areas for photovoltaic and wind power installations and to develop a simplified simulation model incorporating spatial and temporal aspects of electricity generation. The analysis is based on spatial data processing in ArcGIS Pro, considering solar irradiation, slope and aspect, wind potential, and spatial constraints related to land use. The study area is divided into nine locations corresponding to former mining sites. Time series of electricity generation are derived from meteorological data and compared with a modeled industrial consumption profile. The results indicate a higher potential for photovoltaic systems and confirm that the key limiting factor is the temporal mismatch between generation and consumption. The findings highlight the importance of energy storage for improving system efficiency.
