Abstract
This thesis focuses on the possibilities of further use of coffee grounds produced at the University of Mining and Metallurgy – Technical University of Ostrava (VŠB – TUO). The theoretical part provides an introduction to the issues of waste management and the coffee industry. It focuses on different types of coffee, the characteristics of coffee grounds and their chemical, physical and constituent parameters. Emphasis is placed on the possible use of coffee grounds in current practice. Various studies carried out and their results are also presented. The practical part of focuses on the analysis of the amount of coffee grounds produced at VŠB – TUO. On the basis of the collected data, the resultsare evaluated and recommendations are formulated for optimizing the management of this type of organic waste. These proposals can contribute to the reduction of waste and thus to the mitigation of negative environmental impacts and support the idea of circular economy.
