Abstract

The bachelor thesis deals with modeling and simulation of the defined values in a multi-compartment model of cardiovascular system by use of a glucose dilution. It is quite a new method that uses a 10% glucose solution for measurement of cardiac output. The cardiac output is closely related to left-right shunt in the way that the extent of left-right shunt can be evaluated by cardiac output value. Performing modeling, simulation and measurement supposes taking the two blood samples: before and after application of glucose solution in the range of several seconds up to a minute. Within two minutes the value of glucose concentration reaches its steady state which is the same as before application of the dose. The creation of mathematical models commences with a block scheme assuming the indicator being injected into the pulmonary artery. This model is consequently modified so that the dose is injected into the right atrium. The models are created in Matlab&Simulink computational environment. The Simulink-based model simulates the time plots of a glucose concentration by use of a predefined percentage extent of the left-right shunt. Both left-right shunt and steady states of all variables in the compartments are computed by the designed static model created in Matlab Symbolic Toolbox.
