Abstract

The dissertation focuses on the recovery of metals from metallic wastes via the applications of biological leaching using the bacteria Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. The theoretical part summarizes the topic of bacterial leaching and contains the knowledge on the exploitation of the Acidithiobacillus genus in the recovery of metals from electronic waste. The experiments describe leaching of dust produced during the industrial processing of electronic waste and sludge arising from dewatering of a former and closed gold mine. Leaching was carried out in flow reactors in order to liberate Cu, Al, Sn, and Ag from electronic waste and liberate Cu, Al, Sn, Ag and Pb from the sludge into the leachate. The leaching experiment lasted for 28 days and already after 7 days more than 99 % of Cu, 86 % of Al and 99 % of Sn liberated from the electronic waste in case of some grain-size classes. The recovery of Ag into the leachate was negligible. Leaching the sludge over 99 % of Cu liberated into the solution after 7 days of leaching.
