Abstract
This thesis in the first part tries to capture the development of the economy in the Czech lands since the beginning of the 19th century. It compares the development of individual sectors of the economy together with other parts of the monarchy and mentions important milestones of the whole period until 1989. In the second part it describes course of political development in Czechoslovakia until its division and the subsequent economic transformation of the Czech Republic. It seeks to capture significant changes and events in course of the entire restructuring of the Czech economy. The last part compares the convergence of the Czech economy to developed EU countries in comparison with the V4 countries, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia based on GDP per capita indicators in purchasing power parity and their evolution, average labor costs, investment in science and research and other important indicators determinating developed economy.
