Abstract
This thesis describes a summary of selected generator faults that threaten the operability and stability of electricity supply to end users, including the causes of their potential occurrence and the consequences for both the machine itself and the power system. It also deals with electrical protection systems, explaining their function and the principles on which they operate. Furthermore, it briefly outlines the requirements for today's increasingly evolving smart protection systems according to applicable standards, as well as the challenges associated with this field. This section also includes an introduction to the RET630 protection relay, which is used in the practical part of the thesis, with a focus on the application of the low-impedance restricted earth fault protection function to protect the stator winding of the generator. Additionally, the thesis provides a guide for creating an application for the RET630 protection relay using the PCM600 software, including explanations of the purpose of various parts of the program. The program developed according to the guide is subsequently applicable to a laboratory task focused on testing the LREFPNDF protection function. Finally, a sample measurement protocol is provided.
