Abstract

The presented dissertation thesis contributes to solution of geotechnical monitoring issues – monitoring during execution of large engineering projects like road and railway tunnels, for example. Execution of such projects causes significant interventions into the rock environment. Monitoring thus represents one of the prerequisites for success of large engineering projects. Subsequent interpretation of the monitored data and related inspection of geotechnical risks provide for successful and quality execution of even large tunneling projects in complicated geological conditions. The dissertation thesis summarizes the experience with geotechnical monitoring on three tunneling projects: Valík motorway tunnel near Pilsen, presently the longest railway tunnel in the Czech Republic on Chomutov – Březno railroad, and Lochkov road tunnel which forms part of the south-western part of the Prague ring road. The assignment of the thesis focused on geotechnical monitoring evaluation on the underground projects belonging into the 3rd geotechnical works category. One of the main tasks dealt-with during the thesis execution was the optimization of convergence measurements evaluation with regard to the defined alert states. The thesis focuses on this issue in a great detail and suggests specific solutions for given problems based on the practical experience. Equally important part of the thesis is the evaluation of the monitoring data collected on the above-mentioned projects. The thesis also deals with emergency situations encountered during construction of tunnels in the Czech Republic and analyses some of their causes. Last but not least, the thesis provides a brief overview of the classification systems used in underground line structures construction in the Czech Republic and summarizes and describes the most frequently used monitoring methods. Specific steps aimed at optimization of the main goals of the thesis are summarized at the end of the material.
