Abstract
This thesis deals with the construction of a rock core "scanner" as a proof of concept, as part of an effort to modernize procedures in engineering geology. The scanner is used to create 3D models of rock cores and to analyse them in terms of descriptive geological characteristics. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part addresses methods of rock mass classification and description, as well as rock mass testing. The practical part covers the theory of 3D model creation and the construction of the device itself, including an evaluation of its accuracy. The conclusion summarises the functionality of the device, proposes improvements for a potential next iteration, and compares the device with a commercial solution — the DMT CoreScan3.
