Abstract

This thesis describes an experiment, during which the effect of changing angle of dies on mechanical features of lead patented dry-drawing wire was evaluated. There were three sets of dies with different angles used during the experiment whose influences on the features of the wire were compared after they had been checked by tensile testing, twist testing and bending. Drawn wires are used in various branches, for example in automotive industry as beat wire or steel cords, different pull pins, springs, Bowden cables, in building construction for pre-stressed concrete and as wires used in cables and crane ropes in metallurgy and mining industry. Wire drawing is cold forming, during which plastic deformation of wire takes place due to pervasion of the wire through a cone opening of a work instrument called die. This process leads to prolongation and reducing of the area of the wire (diameter) simultaneously with strength and hardness increasing and reduction of its plastic features.
