Abstract

This diploma thesis focuses on the problems of economic activities of chosen hospitals, which form a personnel union in the Moravian-Silesian region. These chosen hospitals are Public-benefit corporations founded by the Moravian-Silesian region – Hospital with policlinic Karviná–Ráj and Hospital with policlinic Havířov. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate economic activities of both hospitals during years 2009–2013 based on analysis and to formulate propositions for improvements. The diploma thesis is divided into theoretically-methodological part and practical part. The first section provides brief characterization of health service in the Czech Republic and also hospitals as parts of a health care system. The practical part analyzes economic activities of the chosen hospitals in their main and complementary activity and provides information about financial health of hospitals. The financial analysis was performed by using evaluating indicators. The thesis results are proposals to improve the economic activities of both hospitals, which focus on the reduction of funding in the two most problematic areas – the area of material consumption and the area of personnel costs.
