Abstract

The topic of the bachelor thesis is focused on the influence of heat treatment on the microstructure of castings. The theoretical part describes foundry processes, which include crystallization and solidification of casts. Iron casting, its advantages and disadvantages, sand casting, press casting and continual casting are further described in this part as well. The paper also contains knowledge about defects of casts. Heat treatment procedures of casts and types of steel for casts are also covered in following chapters. The practical part consists of characterization of the studied material as well as heat treatment for each sample from medium-carbon chromium-molybdenum steel. Microstructure analysis was performed and Brinell hardness was measured. The bending impact test was also performed, followed by fractographic analysis, which was performed using a scanning electron microscope.
